The serial number is not a reliable guide to the cam configuration, because
the lens head and camera mount tube are separate parts and can be
interchanged with older or newer parts.

Guess the 400mm 5.6 might be better alternative ?

The 400mm f/5.6 is significantly heavier and its price is driven more by
collectors than by users. I also feel that its options for using extension
tubes are more limited because it has a more constricted throat which will
cause mechanical vignetting on a full-frame camera.

If you can find a lens with the Visoflex mount tube (either the f/5.6 or
f/6.8 lens) you can add a Viso-to-Nikon adapter.
