Good morning, Peter!
Actually, it was a very short meeting. It was Christmas Eve, 1997 and Ted
invited me in, but I did not want to disturb his family's holiday gathering.
Our conversation was short, but very pleasant ... and I was on my way.
After Rose had opened her book on Christmas morning, we got to talking about
Ted, as I could not mention him earlier. And as we spoke, we decided that
after the New Year, we'd invite Ted and his wife over for dinner. That went
well and a friendship was born.
After that, we'd have dinner together, alternating homes every 2 or 3 weeks,
for the next 7 years.
As you might imagine, dinner conversation covered many topics, but often would
revolve around stories of Ted's many adventures. Like the time he was left
behind on an ice flow, in the high arctic, or the time he went to photograph
the Queen, with 4 Leicas and no film!
Both Rose and Irene are good cooks, and the meals were memorable. I miss them
and I miss Ted.
David.
PS. As you might imagine, we have autographed copies of all his books and his
video.
Thank you, David. I would've liked to have been the "fly-on-th-
wall" near the doorway that Christmas Eve when Dr Ted autographed
his book for you. I'm sure that was a fun conversation in
retrospect. :)
Best regards,
Peter S.
