Hello everyone!

Thomas,

I read your concern about playing, recording and saving a Combi
Sound in Cakewalk; I may suggest the following:

1) Press "Multi" button (if not already active), then go to page 22A (Copy
Combi)
2) You'll see a blinking "00", which sould be changed (with Yes/No Keys) to
the Combi Number you wish to use in Cakewalk (let´s say, 32, Symphony)
3) Press right arrow key and select which channels will be receiving Combi
Data (1-8 or 9-16). Press again right arrow key (OK?) and "Yes" key.

This way, Combi sounds will be copied to destination tracks (1-8 or 9-16).
Now, we´re ready to transfer our Combi (in fact, our Multi Data, which
includes now a Combi sound) to Cakewalk via Sysex.

4) Press "Global" key and go to page 04A; you´ll see:

04A MIDI DUMP
PROG  ->  MIDI  OK?

5) Change "PROG" to "MULTI" and select your KORG interface (MIDI or PCIF)
6) In Cakewalk, go to "View /Sysx" dialog. Select any empty bank, maybe
number 1 (usually, Bank 0 is used with "GM ON" or stuff like that)
7) Press "Receive Bank" and select form the pop-up window "You start dumping
on instrument", then click "OK".
8) In page 04A, press OK to transfer all tracks data to Cakewalk; when done,
press "Multi" key (if no errors, Cakewalk should notify "X bytes received"

From now on, our Combi sound will be available on Track 1 of Cakewalk (if
1-8 selected above).
It would be a little bit hard to follow all these steps everytime you need a
Combi in Cakewalk; anyway, we can save Combi sound into SysEx files:

9) In Cakewalk's Sysx pop-up window, click on "Auto Send Bank", then click
on "Save Bank To File", give a descriptive name for this file and save it to
disk.

When you save your whole wokfile (in Midi or Cakewalk format) and you reload
it later, your Combi information will be automaticaly sent to X5D
Multitrack and available on Cakewalk Track 1. Now you can use from Cakewalk
anytime you want. Just one more thing, when you do this, you won´t be able
to use Cakewalk tracks 1 to 8, since they're devoted to hold Combi
information (only 9 to 16 will be available to your Program sounds).

Thomas, it´s all a pain in the ass, I can give you that, but it´s the only
way I know to insert a Combi Sound into Cakewalk. I would be happy to know
there´s something quicker and easier...

Norberto Loza,

Rosario, Argentina.
