I was surprised, when I made one of my very rare forays to the TV schedules, not to see mention of one of my favourite, though repetitive, channels; Discovery Wings. Is it now no more?

Ironically(?) the episode of Air Crash Investigates featuring him was on National Geographic this afternoon. I reckon it won't be nice over Sumburgh which is at the receiving end of the plume but the latest charts show it is dissipating before it gets to Edinburgh. Admittedly it's going to get worse over the next few days as the Jetstream is pointing this way. When Eric Moody lost all the engines in his B747 over Jakarta he was well aware something was wrong. The ash was thick enough to cause sparks on the windscreen (it was night time) and cause a St Elmo's fire effect around the engine cowlings. Not only that but they could all smell the stuff. The ash eventually caused so much impact damage to the windscreens that they became opaque and impossible to see through. bones bones@xxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Mike Brook Sent: 15 April 2010 15:04 To: jhb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jhb] Re: Grounded by NATS .... and we might get some spectacular sunsets. Every cloud, as you say, has a silver lining! Living, as I do, directly under the downwind left hand leg for 33 at EGBB I'm actually enjoying the quiet and peaceful afternoon! However, the real world applies to our son, who's unlikely to be flying out of JFK tonight, if the NATS view is correct. Every cloud has a silver lining; well, grey then. The eruption deprived the politicians of 15 minutes of lunchtime TV! I guess it has two silver linings, since it isn't something we can all be made to feel guilty for causing.
