programmer's editors and jaws

Good morning folks.
Having recently moved to XP pro which I like a lot, my much-loved
codeWright, 16-bit version, no longer works for writing scripts and code in
other programs. I'm looking for a text editor, compatible with Jaws, that
allows for numerous simultaneously open files etc. I've seen posts here
about such editors but paid too little attention at the time, happy with my
program. I dislike the JFW script editor, finding it far too limited in its
ability to do the kinds of things I and most programmers do. Any suggestions
about purchasable or shareware will be much appreciated.
