chris, Oh. The left thumb. Now that's something I never thought of. Anyway, personally, I'm fine with the new key combo I assigned to this, and I don't expect to mislead anyone in a discussion about that function. No problem. I do remember how everyone confused each other about how to do the Reply directly to Sender special Jaws command, with some people saying it was this keystroke and others saying it was that, and no one understanding that it wasn't set the same for everyone in two different Jaws versions. And then there were people who didn't understand that what was being discussed was a special Jaws function, not a normal Outlook or Outlook Express sort of email reply command. So I agree, it can get crazy. But my fingers are happy, and that's what matters to me. I promise never to discuss this topic on the list and mislead anyone by describing the keystroke I use. :-) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mullins, Chris" <Chris.Mullins@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, April 04, 2007 2:20 AM Subject: RE: one's finger positions on the keyboard Excellent comments however I would only use Keyboard Manager as a last resort, as departing from default keystrokes means that people end up using different keystrokes to achieve the same thing and in terms of list discussion, wires can soon get crossed. As for the Insert+alt+s keystroke, I find it easier to leave my 4 fingers over the ASDF keys and just slide my thumb off the space bar to hit the left alt key. I'm not trying to discourage people to use keyboard manager, feel free to assign a feature to a key stroke which is most conveniently for you. I just thought of letting everyone know that I can easily press alt+insert+s, the keystroke for selecting a speech scheme, its very easy. do the following: Place your fingers on the home row as is taught in typing with your index fingers on the f and j keys. Now place your left pinkie on the left alt key. Now you can use any right hand finger to hold down the insert key on the number pad.Now tap the s with your left ring finger. Its really easy; I don't find it difficult at all. But don't feel discouraged to use keyboard manager, I just thought of letting everybody know that I personally find it easy to press alt+insert+s. sincerely-- JFW related links: JFW homepage: http://www.freedomscientific.com/ Scripting mailing list: http://lists.the-jdh.com/listinfo.cgi/scriptography-the-jdh.com JFW List instructions: To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to jfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
