Judith,
It does no harm to just press the virtual or PC cursor key; if you were in 
forms mode at that moment, you'll hear Jaws say that you're out of it, now. 
If all you hear is the name of the keystroke, then you weren't in forms mod. 
Then you can hit Enter (or space bar, if that's what you've discovered 
recently, though I've never learned that from Jaws documentation or 
tutorials) and turn on forms mode if that's your desire.  It's no trouble, 
and it won't disrupt anything like cursor location if you happened to have 
been in forms mode and wish to turn it on again.
