Thanks Chip, greatly appreciated. She has 512 MB of memory, Avast! Antivirus and Super Antispyware. She uses the Windows Firewall as her firewall.

It sounds like she's got a slow pc with too little memory, and like us all, over time has added more and more software packages which run at startup, and so are running when she's trying to run Word. Removing some of these (firewalls, antivirus, antispyware, all kinds of convenience software, etc.) would help; of course, so would adding memory if she doesn't have at least 2gb. Deleting normal.dot won't hurt; almost no one has customized it so that they would mind losing it. If she has just try renaming it instead. hth, Chip ------------------------------ Chip Orange Database Administrator Florida Public Service Commission Chip.Orange@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (850) 413-6314 (Any opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect those of the Florida Public Service Commission.)-----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Chris Hallsworth Sent: Monday, July 28, 2008 1:45 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Word 2003 Problem Hi all, E-mailing on behalf of a friend who's experiencing sluggish performance when creating or opening files in Word 2003. This only happens for some time, then the performance is back. She's using JAWS 8 as her screen reader, running in 40 minute mode. Would deleting normal.dot solve the problem? What else could she do? Thanks in advance for the help. -- Chris Hallsworth Derbyshire, UK E-mail christopherhallsworth71@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx MSN ch9675@xxxxxxxxxxx Skype chrishallsworth7266 Website http://www.chrishallsworth.co.nr Klango chrishallsworth -- JFW related links: JFW homepage: http://www.freedomscientific.com/ Scripting mailing list: http://lists.the-jdh.com/listinfo.cgi/scriptography-the-jdh.com JFW List instructions: To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to jfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
