I had the same issues. With Word, Note Pad and Outlook. It would get so bad, that the delay from either typing a character or backspacing etc to hearingJaws speak would often be in the 7 or 8 second range. Upgrading to the 9.0 version seems to have resolved the problem. Every blue moon though it can get sluggish, but no where nearly as bad as before. I don't know if upgrading is an option for your friend, but I remember trying everything Iknew and I even wrote to the Jfw and Blindtech lists and really, didn't getmuch feedback on how to fix it.
