I have encountered similar problems, and it usually turned out to be a video card problem, but, if it worked before they had their computer restored then it probably isn't video card at all. I would have them check the video display chaining manager under jaws tools in the programs on the start menu.

As a last resort I would have them do an "install maintenance" which effectively reinstalls jaws.

Hope this helps,
Bob

Ray, you might want to check out this TSN on jaws stuttering with eloquence,
but it is from 2001.

What sound card are they using, did you say? And they are using Eloquence?

Ray, I would check to make sure they have the latest drivers for their video card. Well and I guess the sound card. But first I might try a couple of things: I would check their displa and appearacne settings against the jaws recommended settings for windows xp. http://www.jfwlite.com/messages/FS%20Recommended%20Settings%20for%20Windows%20XP.txt On the appearance I would make sure they are using standard or classic and not soemthing like brick, or white onblack on white or something like that. Another thing I might try is I would check the blink rate. http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_support/BulletinView.cfm?QC=506 On that same screen, I would check the blink width and it is by default at narrow which I think is 0 percent. Also in control panel, I would go to mouse. Control tab to to pointers and make sure they are using a standard pointer scheme and not extra large cursors or anything like that. Now nothing I said might not make any difference, smile. It is just what I would check out first. It might be sound card related more than display settings. Debbie

Subject: Studdering Problem with JFW 7.0

Hello All:

I took a call from a client who is running an E-Machines computer with
Windows XP, JAWS 7.0 and 512K of RAM. He had a situation in January
where he had to restore his computer from the manufacturer's disks.
Ever since this happened, whenever he goes either to a website and tries
entering forms mode or when he uses a program called Media Jukebox to
play music, his JAWS studders. For example, he showed me how it said
"po, po, po, po," in Media Jukebox. I believe the word he was trying to
have it say was "pocket."

I suggested to him he ad more memory to his computer as I thought that
there wasn't enough memory for Windows, JFW and other programs to run.
He has 512K of RAM.

Has anyone heard of this happening and if so, do you have any other
suggestions?

Thanks,
