Tried all of that! I'm obsessed with keeping everything on my PC up to date and uncluttered. The system has just been fully reinstalled and only the minimum is installed as far as additional software to the operating system.
As I've said time and time again, it doesn't do this wiht any other version of JAWs or no JAWS at all.

During these pauses, I wonder if the CPU utilization rises on your computer. If it does, which process is utilizing it? Task manager will tell you this. Also, have you applied all Windows updates to your computer? You might havesome out-of-date system drivers that can cause slow-downs. Finally, if you have running programs that you don't need, stop them. If you have software installed that you don't use, remove it. Some programsinsinuate themselves into the Windows message flow path within your computer(by the use of hooks and other methods), which again, can slow down performance. So if you don't need 'em, get rid of 'em. It does it every time I have JAWS 10 running and no other time. I have two machines, for example, and both shut down immediately. This is the kind of situation where the competition says, "Please send us your computer at your expense. We'll reproduce it, maybe we'll fix your problem, maybe not, and then we'll send you your machine back at your expense." It all shuts down very quickly with JAWS 9 or earlier and there are no performance issues iwth my PC at all. It is only when I am running JAWS 10 that this issue occurs and whilst it is waiting to log off the hard drive doesn't make much sound at all, as if the PC is justwaiting there. Then after a while it suddenly springs bakc to life again. As I say, it works fine without JAWS 10 running. Also, my hard drive was newly formatted a few days ago and the only software on the PC is Vista, Office 2003 and Live Mail and Messenger. I noticed when I hadXP running on a slower computer the programs like Jaws and other programs took longer to run. You might want to defrag your computer. Do this overnight so that you won't have the temptation to do anything with it. Then after that see if things work better. Itstill only does this with JAWS 10, not any other version of JAWS or whilst JAWS isn't running. Anybody else still having this. Also notice the issue of JAWS jumping in to forms mode as a page has loaded still exists. Thought they might have given us the option ofJAWS not going in to forms mode when a page loads as myself and severalothers have raised it.
