John,

Another thought. When I run setup.exe from the CD, it starts out by =
saying
Welcome to JAWS, and it tells me to make sure I have no screen readers
running, so initially the correct setup file seems to be running.

I think your idea is probably correct. However, I just did a search for
setup.exe on my hard drive, and I found 67 entries, so I may be busy for =
a
while before I find the right one. ouch.

it's triggering another setup.exe file somewhere from a modem driver you =

installed or upgraded, might be in the temp folder or somewhere else =
where=20
windows is looking before it comes to the CD, I've seen this before. =
You'll=20
have to find that file and rename or get rid of it. Might be in your =
temp=20
folder, might be just on the hard drive, could be in a folder you =
download=20
stuff to, I have no clue with out actually looking at the computer but =
I=20
know once I downloaded a file once and the downloaded file name was by=20
default, setup.exe and every time I tried to install a program from then =
on=20
it kept triggering that file, very annoying until finally I realized why =
it=20
was doing that and I renamed it and that stopped. I hope that helps, I'd =

have to look at the computer to tell you exactly where it is but it's=20
probably on the hard drive, probably in the drive itself not in any =
folders=20
though it could be in a folder, or could even be on your desktop.

Thanks for your willingness to help, but there's nothing to paste. It
simply says "installing modem driver". If I then hit Next, it asks me =
=3D to
restart the computer, and after restarting, there's no new JAWS, nothing
new. I read it using Narrator, and I didn't believe my ears, so I got =
=3D my
wife to look at the screen, and that's exactly what it said. Nothing =
more
than that.

hi
Could you paste the exact message that is displayed on the screen so =3D
that=3D20 one of us could possibly figure out what it's doing? to be =
honest
what=3D20 you're saying doesn't make a whole lot of sense, since the =
JAWS
program=3D20 does not have any modem drivers. so if you can somehowget =
the
exact message to us here we could help you=3D20 sort this out.
