Actually, this set of scripts was specifically developped so that the
numbers you describe could be read as single chunks so if you have a bunch
of them, you could use prior or next say numeric data keystrokes to move
thrugh and read them without the default behavior of having to hit either
insert or controll with your direction key multiple times in order to read
through a numeric chunk of data. It is unfortunate that it does not work in
situations for some in which it was designed to work. The actual blurb on
this in jaws help if you have the keys set up is "skip forward and skip
backwared past..." which is not entirely accurate as the actual behaviour is
to speak the data as it jumps over it.

Notepad

Hello everyone:
I think that in all fairness, we need to clarify what this command was
designed to do.
What it was designed for was to allow you to skip long strings of numbers
like IP addresses with a single keystroke.

For example, if you've added these new commands, you could read the line

"My computer uses the ip address 192.168.135.3 to communicate with the
internet."

as a single line, or you could use your next and previous word keys to get
to the number and then use the appropriate
"NumericDataSayNextAsSingleUnit"
OR
"NumericDataSayPriorAsSingleUnit"
key to skip the IP address.

This can be found on the JFW 5.0 page
http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_products/software_jaws5fea.asp#newingeneral
under heading level 2
New in General

heading level 3 New Navigation Scripts Added

New Navigation Scripts Added

Two new commands have been added, which you can assign in Keyboard Manager.
The Scripts found in the default file are called:
NumericDataSayNextAsSingleUnit
And
NumericDataSayPriorAsSingleUnit
Long names, but here's the short of it:
If you have a long word filled with numbers and punctuation, such as an IP
address or stock quote, press one of these keystrokes to move forward or
backward
past the whole unit. It can make navigating in such material much quicker
and easier to understand. Remember that these keystrokes are not assigned,
you
must assign them yourself. They are named as they are so you can easily find
them in Keyboard Manager located in the Default file.
We recommend that you assign these to new keystrokes such as:
CTRL+JAWSKey+RIGHT or LEFT ARROW respectively.

These were in answer to a question posed by users who needed a way to
quickly skip past a whole series of digits and punctuation. If you're not
using Braille,
doing so was quite long and exhausting before. There is a new TSN posted to
explain this for anyone with 4.51 that would like to add it to that version.
Does this clarify the situation?
