Hi Jean,
Yes, that's what Insert Z is now. The way to turn off and on the new Jaws
navigational single-letter functionality in Word. But it used to be for
turning the virtual cursor on and off.
My actual question, considering the above, was whether or not anyone knows
what became of that virtual cursor business, and what the purpose of it was
in the first place. Also, hoping not to embarrass or offend, may I explain
that the word you needed in order to say "isn't it just sort of "academic,"
now, if none of this is current, is "moot," not "mute." Mute means silent.
Moot is a term associated with rhetorical argumentation and with situations
such as in law school, where there are courses that involve what's called
Moot Court, where students and professors hold civil and criminal trials
about fictional litigation and fictional crimes, in order to learn from the
experience. A lot of people don't know the word and just assume that what
they've heard is the word "mute," ignoring the difference in the "u" sound,
because "mute" is more familiar.
anyway, I'd love to learn about what the virtual cursor deal was and all
that. So if anyone knows, I'd love to hear the story. And if it's still a
feature in Word even though I haven't yet found a reference to it in my
exploration of help files and such, I'd like to know where to find out more
about it in order to get the most efficiency I can in Word. Because I found
the virtual cursor really an impediment to accurate work in a Word document.

Hey, don't you mean insert Z for the navigational commands in Word?
But I'd like to know more of how you used the virtual cursor for better
positioning in Word. But then if it's not available, it's a mute point.
