I've been using Thunderbird for the last three months and I've
had it.
Back to Eudora with all of it's foibles. At least it has some
descent keyboard short cuts.

I think I know what's going on here. I've only just stopped
using the Great Eudora after 15 years and I suddenly remember
that it would occasionally 'Restore' an indivudual 'child'
window.
ALT + SPACEBAR will only maximise the parent screen, but if
the IN box or similar has been 'Restored' you have to deal
with that separately.
Once upon a time I did know the keyboard short cut to maximise
individual screens but can't find it at the moment - I'll keep
looking.
