Thanks Tom Since I am digitally challenged, I'll get my husband to give your suggestions a try. Sandy ----- Original Message ----- From: Thomas J. Then, let it run for 48 hours and see if you get the static. If so, then it's likely not the Verizon DSL service that's the problem. This might be a software problem. You could run your computer in safe mode and see if the static and dinging happens then. If so, then your problem is likely due to hardware. If not, then it could be software. In that case, reboot into normal mode and try disabling suspected software and see if the problem goes away. You could have a soundcard problem, or a speaker problem (if your speakers are powered ones), a power supply problem, or a motherboard problem. I'd start by making sure that all the cards in your computer are properly seated in their sockets, including the memory. This can be accomplished by lightly pushing down on each card. Also, check all audio cable connections for any loose ones. Your observance of both dinging and static might suggest that you have more than one problem. But it also could mean that there's a bad data connection somewhere or an intermittent connection on the motherboard. You're probably right. The problem occurs regularly after 48 hours of continuous computer on-time. If it's not Verizon or JAWS causing the static through the speakers, could the problem have to do with some sort of incompatibility between my Dell software and Verizon? I never had anything like this when I had Comcast. Also, the interference isn't limited to only my use of the internet. All my other programs experience the same speaker interference once it begins. This is electrical interference. It can even be caused by GSM cell phone signals. I have battled this problem myself and it is very hard to reproduce when you are trying to fix it. I can't see this as a JFW issue at all. I had no problem with Comcast, but I have one with Verizon and wonder if anyone else has had (and solved) the problem. I leave my computer on 24/7. After 48 hours, my computer starts going crazy. It starts making dinging sounds and there is a lot of static. This happens regardless of whether or not I am using any of the keys. I contacted Verizon and they had no idea what was happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sandy
