I am not sure what type of filter it is.
All I can tell you, is that this type of filter, replaces the need to have
a
filter attached to phones, etc., that you might have connected to your
phone
line.
The master filter, for I cannot think of a better name for it, worked
better
than the individual filters we were using before.
By the way, we used Earthlink before we used Verizon.
At present, we are using Earthlink through our cable company.
I cannot wait for Verizon, or another company to install FIOS in our
neighborhood.

How did the phone tech people connect your computer? Did they run a
separate line from your network interface box outside? They'd almost
have
to, because the DSL signal is not present in the phone line once it has
passed through a filter. Of course, it could be a different type of
filter
they used, that does not attenuate this signal. But then there wouldn't
be
much point in having the pre-filter at all -- unless it was the sort of
filter that weakens the signal a little but does not completely eliminate
it. Curious.

When we had Verizon DSL service, the installation engineer installed a
pre-filter in the phone line before it came into our house, which took
care
of the problem of having a filter attached to each device that was
connected
