Yardbird, my primary intent was to let Patricia know that the next release of Jaws might not be for another 2 or 3 weeks or more and I tried to do this in somewhat of a humorous fashion. As for what's wrong with Jaws 7.0 and 7.1, these issues have been beaten to death--there have been numerous posts about things broken in recent releases. We have also been promised a number of fixes with Jaws 8. The Jaws program is, frankly, massive and miraculously almost performs an incredible variety of functions. It is inevitable that in doing so, conflicts will arise from time to time. As with Windows itself, it must be becoming increasingly difficult for any one programmer to maintain a clear grasp of all the features of the program in every application. Personally I have experienced crashes with Jaws 7.1 on certain web sites and so from time to time load an earlier version that does work with that site. I am hoping that with the release of version 8 and IE 7 that some of these crash issues will have been resolved. So, stay cool, this list is only a composite of our opinions and we are not pinning anyone to the wall here nor is this the forum for lengthy philosophic dissertations. Such a list is indeed needed though and I do feel strongly that you should start one. I look forward to the opportunity to subscribe to such a forum! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Yardbird" <yardbird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, October 30, 2006 7:52 PM Subject: Re: JAWS 8 Hi, Just wondering, what sorts of noteworthy troubles have you had with Jaws 7? I've had scarcely any, that I can think of; the only problems I can remember right now have had to do with updates in other apps such as Audible Manager and AdAware that required new scripts, generously provided by scriptwriters in our online community. But those weren't lapses in the functionality of Jaws itself. For reference, I run Win XP Home w/SP2 and mostly use apps like Word, OE and IE 6. What problems with Jaws 7 have you encountered that make you particularly eager for the next release? I mean, apart from its intended compatibility with ("support for")IE 7? Thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Hebert" <roberthebert@xxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, October 30, 2006 7:36 PM Subject: Re: JAWS 8 I sometimes get a message on my computer that says "hidden jaws" Could this be the elusive Jaws 8? Seriously though, after the mess FS made with the release of version 7, I would expect--neigh hope--that they would want to make very certain that the new release is working well with IE 7. The release will be mailed to everyone on a CD as the new SAPI voices occupy about 700 megs and would present serious download problems for many folks' servers. Just think of the new release as a Christmas present; and if Santa comes early--well, we will be pleasantly surprised won't we? ----- Original Message ----- From: Patricia To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, October 30, 2006 1:03 PM Subject: JAWS 8 I'm sure none of you have received your copies of JAWS 8 yet, but I seem to remember it coming out in October, and IE 7 just came out and i would like to download it but would rather do so with proper support from JAWS 8. does anyone know when it will be coming out? I'm surprised that there is no mention of it on the FS website as of yet. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No virus found in this incoming message.
