I have checked those settings, and haven't messed with MTU sizes and I do know what you're referring too like optimizers for data transfer which go into the registry and change those settings. One I use to use is called tcpoptimizer with Windows 98, which also will work for XP. The kicker for this issue though is that jfw9 updated fine, why not jfw10? Thank you, Tom, for the ideas, will keep at it until it's solved. I would hate to run a repair for windows xp home, since that involves much more than just network connections. I could do this, uninstall every network connection and start clean that way. Repairing Windows seems extreme for a program issue it seems to me. I have had only one other program not find my internet connection, and that is a new build of send space wizard, 1.140 beta, and all versions from 1.37 build did not find it, however 1.36 does and still does so . . . what is it they are expecting which everyone else seems to have and I don't. :)

Have you changed any of your network settings on your computer, such as the maximum MTU size, IP window sizes, and so on? PC network tweaker programs sometimes muck with these settings. If you've used such a program, I'd try resetting our network stack settings to the defaults and attempt the update again.Tom Hesley -----Original Message-----From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Curtis DelzerSent: Friday, November 21, 2008 1:25 AM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: JAWS 10 Update issuesNo, updated the full release to get the study materials, and I only found that out because my wife who also runs jfw 10, her computer receives updates, just fine, and on the same router as my computer. She's even running it wirelessly, but when she ran it straight through with a cable, same result, I just don't have a clue, too esoteric for me at this point. My Firewall, is not blocking the jfw update program. Something is not allowing the update program to communicate with the net somehow, so I get that messageJAWS Updates There is an error with your Internet connection. Oh yes, I mean jfw 10 update issues, the subject, still on this computer, will not update, no matter what. I get on the web, fine, ftp sites, ok, email, ok, but yet will not update. Now of course running jfw10 full release, no luck. My wife's computer, on the same router, :) updates fine so why not on mine? Any ideas at all, welcome, turned off firewall, (at risk for a short bit yes), no luck, turn off antivirus, no luck, and yet everything else works fine. Does the update require a port to be opened like 12000 for tandem? I even did that, no luck. It is a puzzle that someone on this list must have figured out for their computer, so I'd love to know your solution so toss it my way, please? When you start Firefox, it gives you the start page, where one can search terms, but the edit field is not recognised as such, the plop sound indicates that I go into forms mode, but nothing is announced, neither edit, nor search. Just when I tab around, the edit field is recognised. Not only does this happen on the Mozilla start page, but also on the very beta report form I used to file the issue. Strange thing. The announcement "virtual PC Cursor" in OUtlook Express can also be observed here, so this must be a general thing they broke in this beta.
