Bruce,
It's hard to believe you don't know that AVG Free Edition represents a
company, Grisofts, which offers a paid version of this product as well as
other products, the only difference with the free AVG being that it doesn't
entitle the user to communicate directly with Grisoft for tech support.
Financially, it's supported by their other, income-generating offerings, for
one thing, and if it was so catastrophically inept as your stats make it
seem, it would reflect very poorly on the company, to their ultimate
disadvantage. here, "free" doesn't necessarily, on the face of it, mean
"junk," whatever your impression. And your favorite product may well be more
thorough, just as you say, but I doubt that would be because Grisoft isn't
offering this product in good faith. Sometimes, what sounds like a
comforting, savvy cliché may have its limitations. Very often, in fact.

Oops, must spell check and get out of here. Just got a dialogue from AVG=GO
saying that hackers in Budapest, Detroit and Islamabad, working together,
have infected my computer with a virus that will wipe out my hard drive and
turn off my refrigerator within 20 seconds. Bye, all.

The fact that it is free is antoher reason I wouldn't trust it.
