There are AV or Anti Virus industry comparisons done each year and against each other so they can compare their products against each other and the type of protection/interface they selectively use. The apple versus apple thing or apple versus orange, collectively speaking, comparison. What is amusing in its comparison's is they don't include price, which may be very well the most deciding factor for the user! I mean we all know Porchse makes a better two seater automobile than Studebaker! But really which one can you afford. The other comparison that wasn't mentioned in most of the result articles was the environment in which they would be run in. AVG free edition is great for me who operates his computer by his lonesome and doesn't click every link I hear or download every file or photo people send me! The other thing to take into consideration is your "usage" of your computer too. So Bruce expressing his opinion of AV software is what suits him best as well as Yardbirds usage as well. In this case what is good for the goose might not be what is best for the gander or even the Yardbird! For my part, I've been using AVG Free Edition for years, and a few times It's caught a stray virus, which I appreciated, and the rest of the time I've had no problems at all, allowing it to scan each morning and do its automatic online update. I don't think it's fair to just bum-rap the product like that, without offering evidence that it's not worth anything to the user. If you don't like it, take the time to explain how you know it's a hazard to people who use it, or however you feel about it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bruce Toews" <DogRiver@xxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, February 03, 2007 9:24 AM Subject: RE: Inaccessible AVG update message I believe AVG to be very untrustworthy under the best of circumstances, so this becomes doubly important. bruce -- Bruce Toews Skype ID: o.canada E-mail and MSN/Windows Messenger: DogRiver@xxxxxxxx LiveJournal: http://brucetola.livejournal.com Radio Show and Podcast: http://www.totw.net Web Site (including info on my weekly commentaries): http://www.ogts.net Info on the Best TV Show of All Time: http://www.cornergas.com On Sat, 3 Feb 2007, Chris Skarstad wrote: > I completely agree! > It is not wise to keep your antivirus program out of date, with all the > viruses around, you're liable to be caught if you're definitions aren't up > to > date. > Besides, AVG 7.5 is completely screen-reader friendly, so you're actually > doing yourself a disservice by not upgrading. > > > > > At 09:55 AM 2/3/2007, you wrote: >> You may not be getting the updates.
