Morey,

If I understand you correctly, you would do the following:

1. Move focus to the start of the first line you wish to copy. Hold down the shift key and press the down-arrow key as many times as there are lines you wish to copy. (I'm referring to the four arrow keys, not the numpad.) JAWS should speak the text of the line currently copied. To save time and not have JAWS constantly speaking, I approximate the number of lines and, therefore, the number of times I will need to press the down-arrow key. Then I listen as JAWS speaks the most recent line copied. Then I press down-arrow again, if need be, until I've copied the entire block. All the while, you must keep the shift key pressed.

2. Press control-c to copy the selected text or control-x to copy and delete it from its old position.

3. Move focus to the point where you wish to insert the text. Press control-v to paste it there.

Your earlier reply to Christopher suggested you'd tried something like this method. If so, I hope I've been exact enough so that it will work now.

Good luck.

Hi Adrian, Sorry for not being more explicit. I have a HJPad document that has 72 lines of text. The shortest line has 2 characters and the longest has 3 characters. It is a very long list. An example of the layout is below, which are the first 2 lines of this document.

01
225

and so on down the list. What I am trying to do is select lines 19 to 36, and move up to and adjacent to line 1, then do the same with the next 36 lines so that in the end I will have 4 columns of small text. It would look much more appealing than a long skinny line. Hope this makes sense. I know I could retype this list and change it that way, but if I could use the tools available, it would help with later ventures. The only editing programs I have are HJPad, Wordpad, and Notepad. Maybe I cannot do this in these programs. Thoughts? Many Thanks, Morey

Hi, Morey.

I think you will get more useful advice if you specify what kind of material you are trying to drag and drop. I find selecting, copying and pasting covers most situations where sighted users drag and drop. The trick is to know the various methods of selection, such as control-a for all, shift-down arrow for a single line of text, and so on.

If this last suggestion isn't relevant to your question, I apologize, but in that case, it shows the need to be specific.

Hello all, I have a real headache trying to get Jaws8 (new version) to drag and drop items in a document such as HJPad. Is there a bunch of secrets for doing this? I have tried the help menu but no real hands on help. Is there a tutorial for this somewhere? Please....any help appreciated. If you wish to contact me off list so not as to clutter it up, please do so.
Thanks,
Morey Worthington
