Rather depends upon how the music is being played. If it is a background sound then indeed escape will stop it, however if this doesn't work your next best bet is to hope that the developer at least had the good sense to put a button to silence the music. If this is a button true then using the b key on version 5 onwards of jfw will cycle through buttons, it's just a matter of struggling to hear what jaws is saying through the noise I'm afraid but at least if you know what you are hoping to hear you might have a better chance. If no appropriate sounding buttons are found then you could try jfw key f7 to generate a list of all the links on the page and again try to listen to see if any of those sound like music off, sound off, stop music etc. Anotehr alternative is that the sound might be part of a Flash animation. Using jaws to blick the flash will also stop the music - when on the site do jfw key v to open up verbosity settings, press f twice to reach the show Flash animation option, use space once to toggle this to no, and press enter. If that does fix it then you can use jfw key, shift v, to configure that setting for the website in question only. Otherwise it's use a braille display, external synth, or forget it. =20 Adrian Higginbotham Accessibility and inclusion adviser British Educational Communications and Technology Agency - BECTA Tel: Direct dial 024 7679 7333 - Internal extension #2287 Email: Adrian.Higginbotham@xxxxxxxxxxxx Web: http://www.becta.org.uk/ BECTA, Millburn Hill Road, Science Park, Coventry, CV4 7JJ=20 -----Original Message----- From: jaws-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jaws-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Joan Muir Sent: 17 August 2006 00:39 To: jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jaws-uk] Website with Music Hi, Folks, I know this has been asked before but my memory must have been playing tricks. I enter a site on which music is blasting. How do I shut it up please? Poor old Jaws hasn't a hope of being heard! I thought I used Escape but it didn't work. Best wishes, Joan. ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=3Dunsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=3Dfaq] ** or send a message, to ** jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** jaws-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
