Hi Ken, Like you, I've noticed this from time to time over the last few Jaws releases though I've never been able to identify why it happens. In fact, just recently I had it happen in a table I was reading but the odd thing was that it only did it when I went into particular cells on the table by using down arrow. If I moved onto the same piece of text by using the Tab key, it read things as I would have expected it to!! Explain that one if you can!! In a particular document, I think that the best way to try to get Jaws speaking properly is to select the whole document and then go to the Tools Language dialogue box and reset the document language to be English UK. Don't forget to save it also. Hopefully that will sort it for that document but it doesn't explain why the odd pronunciation happens in the first place. Regards, Jamie _____ From: jaws-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jaws-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Ken Reid Sent: 14 January 2011 09:43 To: Jaws Users Subject: [jaws-uk] Speaking in French/German accents All, From time to time, I find Jaws suddenly decides to speak in a very heavy French or German accent. This can happen on web sites (I use IE8), Word documents (Word 2007) and emails (Windows Mail). All these are being run on Jaws Vista and Jaws 11, but I do remember this happening in the past with XP and earlier versions of Jaws, and earlier versions of the applications too. I rather assume there is some sort of formatting in the document that makes Jaws behave like this, but I can never find anything, and sighted people who originate the documents can't see anything to trigger the change. Sometimes, after reading in this accent for a while, Jaws will switch back to English, but it is then an old Jaws voice that is being used (old in Jaws terms rather than sounding like an aged person). Does anyone else experience this, is it something in my settings, or is it in the document. If the latter, can I do anything about it or do I need to go back to source? Thanks for any suggestions.
