Hi Peter,
I am using Office 2000, also.
However, when I ask Jaws for the version of Word, it says 9.0.2717.
Even with the update to Jaws 9, I still can't bring up the PC cursor when
I
do a Save As.
One of the fixes in this update was to the Save As in Word 2000.
So, either I haven't got Word 2000, or the fix hasn't worked for me.
Could you confirm things your end please?

Having installed version 9 yesterday and gone through the update
process without mishap, I find that all is well until I try to read a
word document. I am told the document shows up on the screen, but Jaws
will not read it.
