Yes, F8 invokes 'Extended Selection Mode' but is only applicable to the
Microsoft Word application.

and what about F8, if I remember correctly, you press this when you have 
your cursor on the first character you want highlighted and as you go down 
line by line, or press ctrl+end to reach the end of the document,  all the 
text will be highlighted from that point onwards and you can do what you 
want with it.
Make sure the window you have your text on is maximized though, otherwise 
this doesn't work properly.
