You should be able to extract the copies from the ISO image using Fake CD which 
IIRC is PD and a copy comes with CDBurn/ CDVDBurn? or using CDROMFS.

Yes you should be able to.

TWAIN is the hardware control part it only works with certain Epson
scanners, I don't see the relevance!

Well some of the USB Hard drives when RISC OS formatted may work, but I'm
not sure how that would help.

The problem is either hardware, hard drive and/or CD/DVD writer/s or
corruption of hard disc image. Remember !Boot is not the only part run on a
power up, Apps, Utilities, Printing? & Public?

If you don't want to power down try the software root, but you will need to
do a restart anyway!

To check if its hardware, you will have to power down remove the data cable
for the CD/DVD and leave just the hard drive connected and do a restart.
