Entschildigung Sie, bitte? Telnetting to the SMTP port (which is what the 'smtp' directive tacked onto the end of the telnet command below) will connect you to the SMTP server. Period. Telnetting to any server without explicitly naming a port will attempt to connect to the telnet port, 23. You can replace smtp with 25 if you don't have an accurate services file/settings. telnet my.mailserver.com 25 OR telnet my.mailserver.com smtp WILL open an SMTP session with the mail server, if one exists, and there are no connection problems. Period. This is how Internet SMTP email works. -----Original Message----- From: Paul Nuernberger [mailto:pen@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, September 18, 2001 1:38 PM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: SMTP Problem http://www.ISAserver.org NOT when the mail server is Linux based - it simply telnets into the server. -----Original Message----- From: Shayne Lebrun [mailto:slebrun@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, September 18, 2001 12:30 PM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: SMTP Problem http://www.ISAserver.org The directions posted below ARE by SMTP. I went to set up Intrusion Detection Alerts, intending that it should send an email to my pager. No matter what I do it will not connect to the mail server I specify. DNS is right, and I can ping that server by name (it is outside of ISA). I have relay rights through that server - its logs show no connection attempts from the ISA IP. I set up the fake Identd server (from ISA CD), and made sure that Identd & SMTP were allowed through ISA. Still no go. Anyone ?? What have I missed here ?
