Change the style names in the original document *before* you export the
DDF files - that way you'll only have to do it once, and you shouldn't
need ConvText.
And new styles will only get added to the bottom of the list when you
drag in a DDF file containing a definition for a style not already found
in the document, so the order of the existing styles in the second and
subsequent chapters/DDF files is irrelevant. All you need to do is
edit the definitions in *one* DDF file, drag that into a blank document
to set up the styles as you want them, and then import all the rest of
the files without any further manipulation.
The plan is:
1. Start a new document.
2. Strip out all the styles to leave just the 'Normal'
style. (When was 'BaseStyle renamed 'Normal'?) Save as
'Template'.
3. Prepare a definitive list of styles in the correct
order and with new names.
Rename the styles in the original document to their desired new names.
Export your chapters as DDF.
4. Create the styles with the new names in the preferred
sequence. Allocate key short-cuts as appropriate.
Rearrange the style definitions at the top of your first DDF file to
reflect the desired order. (A style definition begins with a "{" on
the previous line and ends with a "}" - take care not to miss the
opening bracket when moving chunks of text around!)
Import this chapter into your blank template.
8. Load each modified file into the appropriate
(Impression) chapter.
This should be all that's necessary.
