I recommend you to do that sem project for the sack of doing. Plz
don't put pressure for the FOSS project. It may leads to some ego
clash and you will be in trouble (directly/indirectly).

Exactly! I simply don't understand why you are forcing yourself to do
stuff in Ruby. You can very well do the same stuff in Ruby in the
evenings or when you have free time and also do it in VB and Oracle
for the college's sake. See the positive side of it, you learn three
things and also not get into any troubles at college. Please don't
develop a "untouchable" feeling towards VB/Oracle and other
proprietary stuff. Sometimes knowing these , would help you better
rate , understand free software and shall also add to your knowledge
kitty.
