Now to give a few tips:
A business model should make financially profits.
To start a business based on Oss first identify a business sector of your
interest / expertise.
Auction Business sector : ( ex ebay)
Advertisement Business sector : ex google / yahoo
Pure Information Business sector ( ex matrimonial web sites, )
Training & Education Business sector :
The process should be first identify the business opportunity and then
capitalise on the opportunities using foss. Foss repositories may not have
all the components, You have to develop the missing links yourself . And may
be add them to the foss repository also.
You need to develop some good business knowledge in addition to technical
knowledge.
and need to have the vision to see emerging business opportunities.
jfyi the business revenue of www.tamilmatrimony.com is Rs 60 crores for
the year 2005. the site was started around 10 years ago. there are a lot
of similar matrimony sites started recently. not all of them make this kind
of money. In fact some of them have lost money and closed down.
so you need to have the visibility to see thro the future.
There may be many similar opportunities today which no one has noticed it
so far.
If you can spot an opportunity, then slowly build the idea, then you will
have crores of money flowing in 5 / 10 years from now.
you need to have the patience and the determination.
Not only Foss , all the successful businesses go thro these phases
