i386 is for intel machines.
Yes.
Still I tried booting the compiled image, but the
system is not booting
up. I am getting only a blank screen.
Can you boot into single user mode and get a console
prompt?
You can edit grub on the fly. Highlight your OS entry
when grub loads and press 'e'.
Move to the /kernel line and press <enter>, and add
"single" in the end of the line.
Press 'b' to boot this new configuration and you will
get a console prompt. If yes, then your kernel is
booting fine in run-level 1.
Now, check if you can move to run-level 3
init 3
This will give you six consoles (Control+Alt+Fx,
1<=x<=6). If yes, then the only problem is with your
display driver and/or X configuration.
You can change your default run-level to 3 in
/etc/inittab file :
id:3:initdefault:
SK
