More than anything, the disk subsytem needs more attention
than the choice of filesystem
And, IMHO
One should also look at net topology - a reason for the demand
to back-port 'Netfilter Bridge' to the 2.4.18 kernel was its ability
to enhance/evaluate disk sub-system throughput in a loosely
coupled manner - without getting stuck too much in a decision.
RAID surely has a role to play - whether soft/hard will become
quite irrelevant with the proliferation of headless linux
boxes in the near future.
