Windows itself is not capable of unzipping .tar or .gz file types. However
you can get a free unzipping utility called 7-zip. It handles quite a few
file types. You can just Google it. And, it's quite accessible so no need
to worry.

You're not missing something, I don't know what that file type is. But I
imagine there are archive programs that can handle it. I've seen several
free versions of things, but I don't know about that one. Again, we've
reached the limit of what I know, perhaps someone will know more about this
file type. and can suggest something. i do know this works for regular zip
files, and other archival types that can be unzipped using Windows. If
yours is a Linux file, there may be tools, and there may be tools for the
console, but that's not something I would know about. Again, if it is a
Linux file type, you could try the icon tech list as that is where most
linux discussions take place.

Jenny:

What would I do in the instance where it is a .GZ file. I?ve not yet been
able to unzip those file types on a windows machine normally, or am I
missing something?

To unzip a file on Icon or Braille plus, i would do this:

put the unit in Disk Drive Mode, and unzip it with Windows, that way, you
need not move the file off the unit, then move the extracted data back. You
can extract the data in Windows directly on to Icon or Braille Plus's
harddrive.

I don't have a clue where to start in using the console.
