Hi. Unfortunately, With the later versions of the passport, there is no
allowance made for an external power supply. The new Toshiba drives, which
look a lot like the passports also have no power supply port.
They are both powered by the USB port on your computer.

Passport Drive?

Many USB drives aren't specifically USB spec compliant and require an
external power supply. I expect that may be the case if the drive starts
and stops.

USB says that a device can only expect a certain amount of power if it is
connected to one port. Many USB hubs, including those inside laptops, have
multiple ports, and make the total power for all the ports accessible to a
single device like a CD ROM drive or hard drive.
