Am I safe to try running the diff DeskTop install with Synaptic while inside the Terminal or should this be done from the CLI?3. would it also be better to set up a diff user for that diff DT/Xterm?Either would be neat I could use that ability to advantage I think. Just as you're only able to run one user at a time, you can only run one environment at a time. On my system, for example, I use KDE but Gnome and Xfce are both installed. I need only log out, select Gnome or Xfce and log back in. I did that, in fact, numerous times when I was deciding what suited me best. It was no contest really, KDE suits me so that's where I stay.
Okay guys thanks that sounds like the way for me to go. I have heard lots of good remarks about the KDE DT so been wanting to try it out using the same tasks that I normally have going. Heck it's all play at this point but wasting time getting out of a mess is irritating. I know your help saved me bunch of that.
