Subject: [haiku-development] Re: Should the default WebPositive search engine
be replaced?

Yes, I said that's one of the reasons we *do* use Google. But duckduckgo does
the same now,
so we can consider switching to it.

So far I really haven't brought up switching search engines because GSOC has
been a great program for Haiku, giving us a good source of income and some
great students. We really appreciate Google's ongoing support.

However, the last few years (outside of last year) we weren't picked.

Since as Pulkomandy said, GSOC participation isn't directly tied to our search
engine, I personally support switching to DuckDuckGo.

They offer better tech features like manpage search, no ad tracking, better
privacy, and good internationalization.

We really should add a bunch of "pre configured" search engines, but as others
have said the ux doesn't really offer that at the moment.
