I'm not sure this is the case... in this case... :)
The rounded buttons in these apps are not your general GUI buttons like
OK and Cancel, but just used as a representation of real world devices,
a keyboard and a calculator.

That doesn't make it okay. For one they are just buttons (like in any other app), and second, this point of view opens the door to the UIs Apple is currently doing (ie. a poor man's copy of a real world calendar, and things like that). In short: over my dead body.

Though I in general prefer hard corners in buttons, I'd yield to
artistic license in this case.

I don't. I don't want to open that can of worms on Haiku. Third party developers have all the freedom they want -- the base distribution should look and behave basically like a single application.
