Even if not watered, most fescues lawns will come out of summer dormancy
when the cooler season arrives in October.

E-PLANT TIPS FOR WINTER FROM THE NC COOPERATVE EXTENSION SERVICE

Mecklenburg County, the Cooperative Extension Service is part of Park and
Recreation and offers the tips for gardeners for the hot summer growing
season:

* It is common for lawns to be under "drought stress" in July and
August. One inch of water per week is enough to keep a fescue lawn from
going dormant. If you decide not to water, that is okay too.

* Spot treat broadleaf weeds in lawn with appropriate post emergent
broadleaf weed control herbicide.

* Hot and dry condition can cause pepper and tomato blossoms to drop
off. Try misting plants twice a day to cool them and help the blossoms set
fruit.

*       Water container plants daily.

Call Extension office at (704) 336-4011 or (704) 336-4008 for further
assistance with weed ID and herbicide selection.
