Hi Minesh,

Windows installer caches the MSI and MST files locally in
%systemroot%\Installer.

The files are renamed and in order to find out which one is the one you're
looking for, go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData.

There you should have a key referring to the system account for the MSIs
installed per machine and user SIDs for the MSIs installed per user. Most
likely you'd have a per machine installation as you installed the
application on a server.

So under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\<MSI

GUID>\InstallProperties key, look up LocalPackage value which should point
you to the cached MSI

Hope this helps

Igor

They're in a hidden folder in %systemroot%\Installer - you might not see
it
in the UI, so typing the path into the address bar of explorer will help.
The files are not named in their original way, afaik in a
five-alphanumeric-shortened way, I'd need to check that now.

One of those files is your MSI - you just have to find out which one. That
can be sort of a pain in the rectum on a machine with lots of packages
installed. But better than nothing...

Cheers,

Florian

One of our servers has died, one MSI which came from that server was never
backed up, and so i dont have a copy of it.

The msi is still installed on a machine and I am able to change/repair the
application.

I have searched for the msi by name and generally *.msi on the machine and
cant find it.

If the msi can repair itself then it must be stored locally - does anyone
know where?
