Ruby,
Here's what I found in the Goodfeel list archive re installing the
generic/text driver.

<snip>
"In order to emboss braille scores from GOODFEEL, you will need to install
the Windows generic/text-only printer driver. See the heading ""Embosser
Configuration"" on this link
<http://www.dancingdots.com/main/gfsightedproc.htm> for some basic
direction on how to add the generic/text-only printer driver. You may need
to consult a local expert on Windows if you still have problems after
studying the information on that page and other information below. You may
want to contact the company from which you ordered your embosser for help.
The directions on the page cited above are general.

Try the following specifically for Windows7:

. Press Windows Key to open Search Box.

. Type the following text into the search box: "Add printer" and
press ENTER,

. Tab to ""Local Printer"" and choose by pressing space bar. Windows
will ask you to choose a printer port. If you do not understand which port
to choose, try lpt1. But, again, you may need help from a local expert or
from the company that supplied you with your embosser.

. After choosing printer port, tab to Next button and press space.

. What happens next depends on whether you have the
Generic/Text-only driver already installed. In general, the manufacturer is
""Generic"" and the driver you select is ""Text-only"". You do not want to
make this driver your ""Default"" Windows printer. If there are no other
printer drivers installed on your PC, you will need to add another printer
driver and tell Windows to make that the default. That is, you can add any
printer driver from any manufacturer such as HP, Canon, etc., even if you do
not own one of those printers.

See Dancing Dots Lime support page
<http://www.dancingdots.com/tsgf2/supportlimemore.htm> for information
about what to do if your fonts are missing in Lime. The problem relates to
the configuration of the generic/text-only driver."
<end>

When you're installing the generic/text only driver and get to the
place where you're asked what you want to name your printer, type
the name of your embosser. As was suggested in the snippet, don't make this
printer your default printer.

After you install the generic/text only driver, go to the Embosser
setting under the File menu in Goodfeel and set your characters per
line and lines per page specifications according to the kind of paper
you're using. Select your embosser i.e., what you named the printer
when you installed the generic/text only
driver.

Btw, before you emboss, you can open the resulting .gf file with
Braille View, a program that comes with the Goodfeel package, and use
your braille display to look at the file's format. If you need to edit
anything in the file, you can do so; if you need to add any additional
braille characters, you've got to use the ASCII equivalents.

HTH,
Dani

Thank you Dani, this is the first time I am using goodfeel with this
Embosser Basic DV2. I set the carrectors and lines, for 40 and 27 lines. but

I don't know why the measure numbers are on the pin holes. and a couple or

sometimes Three measures are on the paper, and there is so much space left
at the right side. I don't know how to set the embosser as generic text only

printer. I need this embosser for my english braille too. for that, I use
win braille, now, win braille has top, bottom, right and left margins and
page width and size and so on. and it is so easy to set how we want. I don't

understand why Goodfeel doesn't have it. no margins no page size nothing. I

guess you must be using the latest braille printer. Please tell me how to
set this embosser as generic text only printer? is it a driver?Thank you
again, Cheers,Ruby

Hi, Ruby.
Here's my $.02.
Make sure you've installed your embosser as a Generic/Text-only printer.
In Goodfeel, go to File Menu, arrow down to Embosser Setup, and hit
Enter.
There are edit fields for characters per line and lines per page.
Enter the values you'd like to set for these.
Next, tab to "Embosser device" and arrow through till you land on the
Windows Printer radio button.
Tab once and use the arrow keys to find your embosser name in the combo
box.
Tab to "Save these values as defaults" if you would like to always use
these settings, and hit Enter.
If the settings are just for the current session, tab to the OK button
and hit Enter.
Do a test print to see where the braille falls.
If necessary, adjust your tractor feed levers to move the paper so the
braille falls where you want it.

Is this your first time embossing with Goodfeel? Or is this braille
too close to the pin holes a new thing?

HTH,
Dani
