Dear All,

The question that Gary originally raised regarding an aeroplane leaving O'Hare,
and which Rob answered, certainly to my satisfaction, is turning into a very
interesting point.
If the atmosphere is rotating en mass with the World, and winds spring up all
over the place, in almost random directions, then what is it that acts upon the
molecules in those winds, in order to bring them back into eastwardly,
differential rotation with the World?

If it were the pressure exerted by other air molecules, then in a very short
timespan the atmosphere, as a whole, would slow down and stop.

Neville.

Gary 9/28: What force could do this indeed, Dr. Jones? Then what happens
when the air stops? Pretty damaging to the h-people, isn't it?

Have you ever thought how a rotating atmosphere cannot be
reconciled with Ecclesiastes 1:6? There the Bible says (KJV) "The wind goeth
toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about
continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits." The wind
goes from the south to the north and therefore, Biblically speaking, the
atmosphere is most definitely precluded from rotating only west to east with a
rotating earth.

In geostasis,

Gary Shelton
