More on that Hell stuff .. remember my quote from St. Thomas re a soul, from
Eden,

"since the rational soul surpasses the capacity of corporeal matter, it was
most properly endowed at the beginning with the power of preserving the body in
a manner surpassing the capacity of corporeal matter. Further, this power of
preserving the body was not natural to the soul, but was the gift of grace. "

Well I just thought of something when I recalled our hypnotic experiment where
the pencil end burned like a cigarette. In some cases the skin blistered. Other
experimenters used it to control pain and stop bleeding during operations.

Doesn't that support what Thomas says above, about the power of the soul (mind)
over corporeal matter? Mind you Paul I anticipate your thoughts, but no science
can pinpoint the location of the mind as reflected in
consciousness......reminds me of that delightful movie I must see again, "I'M
ALIVE" where the intelligent robot , discovered more than his designers
anticipated. Philip.

PS Further, whereas Thomas said the power existed only in the beginning,
actually it must still be dormant, which some souls can still activate, as when
Jesus said "with faith" the mountain will move, or when those holy men/women
live without food or water for extremely long times. plm

I agree with your precision on purgatory; now... since the soul can suffer
(in purgatory) without the flesh, can't we conclude that the soul is not a
  pure spirit ?
