Theme: What are you covering up? Late 1980's little boy and father
watching TV. Little Boy says to Dad "why don't you have muscles like the
Ultimate Warrior"? Dad says to son "I do, I'm just hiding them".
Greeter: Sirley Eaves. And she handed out plastic Easter eggs filled with
chocolate. Great way to start any meeting. Message is Happy Easter.
Message is have some chocolate so you can have energy and start a cavity.

Elderly man feels guilty. Priest says there's balance in everything and

Speaker #1. Marieta Ferrington.
Marketing Videos. People watch four to five hours of video per day. And
she later revealed that she made this up. (Uggg and I wrote all the
statistics down). 90 seconds, the time limit to catch the attention of the
audience but 90 seconds of shit is still 90 seconds of shit. What is in it
for you? Short, fun, value base marketing video. Share vision. Exciting
videos every week. Mission is to attract more people. Should I spend
$130.00 on high heels, massage? or dinner? What do you you get out of the
conference when you pay money? 1. Competition. 2. Networking and 3.
Inspiration. Videos helps to achieve vision.
Speaker #2. Jennifer Dunne.
Giving 100% from the sidelines. When you give a little girl a doll, it
taps into her experiences as a baby. When I got a doll, I put it in a shoe
box and ignored it. Incubator. Given up for adoption and plastic
barrier. Baby in a box. Foster family. Sat and stared. Did not do
anything. Baby Brain. World confusing and a scary place. Burning
obsession to figure things out. Retreat - first physical challenge to
climb up a pole. Tight rope. Injury. Expect everyone to participate
100%. How to do that from the sidelines? Figure it out. Define the
problem. I learned cooperation and trust. I learned being on the sidelines
I still participated 100%.

How to communicate with baby boomers. Title of speech "Special like
everyone else". Boys room. Game for one week. Why was game so popular?
Every participant was part of something special. How do we receive
messages? 1. email. 2. phone call, or 3. message with a decorated
wagon pulled by a team of poodles. (I love this description and it's how I
would want all my messages delivered to me). Each generation have things
in common. 1 Respect and 2. Feedback. Neighbor Bob rings doorbell.
Lady in towel answers door. Bob offers $800.00 for her to drop her towel.
Lady drops towel and gets the money. Husband asks if Bob mentioned the
$800.00 he owes him.

1. Jonathan Kolber. Q: Would you rather have more work or less work that
you enjoy doing? A: Work is a four letter word. Playing at games of our
choosing. Serving as best we know how.
2. Robin McIntosh. Q: What would you do different if you knew no one
would judge you? A: I already do things different as if everyone does not
judge me. Innate fear of being up here. So far out of comfort zone, I
don't know where it is anymore. Judge me all you want. Public speaking is
the number one fear.
3. Katelynn Stoll: Q: If you can choose one book as a mandatory read for
all High School students, which would you choose? A: 1984. Book about
the future. It was my first classic book I checked out in the library.
4. Luke Vesely: Q: Do you ask enough question or do you settle on what
you know? A: I ask a lot of questions, explicate life. Interact with
history. Was in Florida last week and bugged park rangers silly. Curious
about life and where we came from.
5. Colette Smith: Q: Are you more worried about doing things right or
doing the right thing? A: Innately a doer. I have a list of thing to
do. I would not always do the right things but I am always doing. Not
always successful but always doing.
6. Bill Farrand: Q: What is the most desirable trait another person can
possess? Male or Female? Scarlett Johansson is a best trait. Honesty -
lets go with that. That'll work. I'll buy that for a dollar. Excalibur,
round table. Marlin asked what is the best quality of a knight? The
answer is truth. When a man lies, he kills a little bit of the world.
7. Kathy Barrett: Q: What does the American Dream mean to you? A: It
means growing up, a loving family. Married, kids, house, and a beautiful
car. Not everyone has this. There are issues, problems. For me, married,
house, divorce. I would like to win the lottery. To quit my job. Hire a
pro golfer. Travel to Ireland. Purchase and design and build a facility
for Toastmasters.
8. Alan Wong: Q: When your 80 years old what will matter to you the
most? A: Kids and having them pass along my legacy. To tell my stories
and to pass along my hopes and dreams. I had a fortune teller tell me my
future when I was young. I would have four kids, have a job sitting down
and work with my hands. I would also die at 65. I'd like to live to be
80. So I've changed my future by having only 3 kids. (now I'll probably
die at 64).
9. Shirley Eaves: Q: What is something you know you do differently than
most people? A: First introduced to computer 3.0 Windows. Learned by the
seat of my pants. I was told I don't do it the right way. Stop - I do it
my way. I may do it differently but I do it well.
10. Dirk Kittredge: Q: Opportunity to present a message to a large group
of people. What would message be? A: Toastmasters. Working as a team
and how to be able to praise things. Explicate more than normal. Not what
the average public does. This club is great because it's done in a loving
matter! (Well said Dirk).
11. Luis Estrada: Q: Is stealing a =to feed a starving child wrong? A:
Depends on circumstances. Hard. .. really don't know. . . Whatever it
takes for child to get food. show child good principles. At the end child
needs to eat.
12. Russ Agnew: Q: What is the most sensible thing you have ever heard
someone say? A: Three things. 1. Grandpa said Raiders suck. 2. Dad
said Raiders suck. 3. Sweet mother, gentle kind and caring said. . . ..
Raiders suck. (I didn't see that one coming).
General Evaluator: Patti Apple.
#1. Evaluator Dirk on Marieta. Speech to persuade. Mechanics opening off
guard because you said 4 to 5 hours was made up. Did not explain what
speech was about? Role to help market conference event. Call to action -
mechanics done well. Use more stories. Use less "I" and use more "you"
and "we". Consensus of seven old people in the meeting was asked if they
would utilize text or video. All seven prefer text.
#2. Evaluator Luke on Jennifer. Purpose to evoke emotion. Sadness,
courage, hope, hopelessness. Encouragement and desire. Superb dialogue.
Great story telling on obstacle course and adoption. Journey with the
highs and lows with upbringing. Character development - use more imagery.
Dialogue maybe look up when talking to parents. Baby in a box great
emotion. Maybe tie it to the end of the story.
#3. Evaluator Luis on Jeff. Accomplished objectives. Vivid images with
the toilet and playing game. Lady and towel and $800.00. Poodles was a
funny expression. Some of the speech was too fast. Great message. You
have a great smile. Good expressions. Everyone's special.
REPORTS
Grammarian: Bill Farrand: Russ had some flubs. I introduce you Jeff.
Throbbing door knob. Luke Where we're going? Doer? Dirk - He and his
daughter. Luis - my piece of advice to you.
Patti Apple on Evaluators.
1. Dirk. Gave explicit advice. More pluses on what was done well. What
to improve. Good use of visual aid.
2. Luke. Very personal. Positive feedback. Equal amounts of praise and
advice.
3. Luis. Hard to give advice. Was specific on suggestions. Good use of
humor.
Quizmaster: Robin McIntosh:
1. How many emotions did Luke list as evaluator to Jennifer's speech? (I
listed six on my recap but I think there were seven).
2. How old will Alan Wong live to be? Answer: 80. (Fortune teller says
65 but what do they know).
3. How far did the towel fall? Answer: To the floor
The meeting was another success. First time Toastmaster for our group
Russ Agnew did a very good job. He was organized and kept the meeting
moving along. Table Topics questions were wonderful by Patti Apple.
Excellent job Patti.
Ribbon winners for Best Speaker went to Jennifer Dunne. Best
Evaluator went to Luke Vesely. And for best table topics, there was a
three way tie. Winners were Dirk, Jonathan, and Luke. Congratulations to
all the winners.
Dirk mentioned that my recaps were definitely my style. What a great
compliment. I never thought of having a style but it works for me. I was
talking to Robin after our toastmasters meeting and I've concluded that I'm
the funniest man on earth AFTER the toastmasters meeting. Driving home
after our meeting, I'm laughing out loud in the car. The wit and humor on
what I COULD and SHOULD have said is hilarious. It just never comes out
during the meeting. Till next week, I am your humble secretary. Happy
