Three old friends playing cards and talking about the worse things to
lose when you get old. First friend says the worse thing to lose is your
hearing. Second friend says the worse thing to lose is your vision. Third
friend knocks on wood and says I count my blessings. Hey, is one of you
going to answer the door?

PhD guy impressed with large fishes in a boat. PhD guy asks guy in
boat how long did it take to catch that? PhD guy from Harvard tells guy
that he can help guide him to get bigger fishes. PhD guy asks guy in boat
what do you do all day? Guy in boat answers he does chores and take naps.
Have a nice dinner and dance all night and I thank my stars I have my
life. PhD guy says i can help you pull in more fish, make more money. Get
a second boat. Create a canning operation. move to Mexico City and New
York and expand. Guy in boat says "then what"? PhD says then retire so
you can enjoy your days where you can do chores, take naps. Have a nice
dinner and dance all night.
Toastmaster for the evening: Phil Poplawski
Theme was Google. I think I can provide you with a plethora of
knowledge.
Speaker #1. Robin McIntosh
Conversing with ease. First meeting with a stranger. Viewpoints.
Personal feelings. Risk and rewards. How to react and what to say? First
element is small talk. Next level is more risky. Increase vulnerability.
Offering your own opinions. Last thing is share your feelings. (Dirk
mentioned intimate contact). Bill is brought into the room. 3 to 5 minute
conversation. Picked Bill because there's no one stranger.
Robin: Do you know what we are talking about?
Bill: Your eyes look shifty to me. I could be Green Lantern, man without
fear.
I also like Dr. Strange and Warlock. Robin compares comic books to comic
strips. Bill yells out NOOOooooo, they are not the same thing. Third part
of speech was audience evaluation.
Speaker #2. Ray Pezolt
The Smoothest Drink. Las Vegas Tech Bar at the MGM hotel, drinking
Johnny Walker Black. What is the most expensive drink? Bar Tender says
McCallan25. How much? If you have to ask, you can't afford it. Next
morning, Sandra introduces Ryan to Ray who owes Ray $125.00. Ryan says to
Ray let me buy you a drink. Ray orders McCallan25. Smoothest single malt
scotch ever. The bill for one shot was $155.00. Licked glass until there
was nothing left in the glass. Ray to Ryan, the $125.00 you owe me, don't
worry about it. The look on your face when you saw the bill tab was worth
it.
Speaker #3. Colette Smith
Coaching from Fad to Fab. Coaching and mentoring, key component to
success. Coaching allows people to know what they are doing to improve and
to know where they are going. Amp up your game - discover coaching. What
makes a good coach? Being able to address substandard performance. 2nd
part of speech was role play with Jennifer Dunne. Jennifer plays the role
of a registration clerk. One naughty clerk. Positive feedback. Provide
training. Cheat sheet. Third part of speech was audience evaluation.
Speaker #4. Russ Agnew
Rebel without a cause. Large man, small mullet. Black ankle
bracelet. Trying to be part of the in crowd. Hair gel. Pretty girls.
Speaking of pretty girls, there was Stephanie. White Acura sedan. Awkward
eye contact. Metallic sunglasses. Fire drill in school. Missing classes
Mr. Tucker yells at everyone "up against the wall:". Running down the
hall. Just to the left is Stephanie on the floor. Eyes glazed over.
Hobbled past Stephanie. Fragments of sentences. "Gun". Exited Columbine
unscathed. Mentally, not so much. Mr. Tucker is a super hero. Saved a lot
of lives. Struggles. Support. Bottom line, people need the help.

Table Topics: Pattie Apple
1. Jeff Stoll. Q: What was the last thing that made you laugh out loud?
Family, friendly, and appropriate. (long pause). It's coming. No,
not that one. Uber driver. Curious about stereotypical gay. Lesbian.
Voice change. Struck me as humorous.
2. Bill Farrand. Q: What is your favorite quote?
What ever does not kill you makes you stronger. Start of Conan move,
bites head off vulture. Go through crap in life like that, your there.
3. Jonathan Kolber. Q: What is the best part about growing old?
I use to know. Best part is all the bad things never happened. Best
part is standing on your own two feet.
4. Dirk Kittredge. Q: What simple fact that I wish people would
understand?
I wish people would understand taxi is an adventure. 45min drive to
Ohara Airport. Taxi driver says these are the moments taxi drivers live
for. Made to airport with 15 minutes to spare.
General Evaluator: Jennifer Dunner
Evaluator #1. Jeff Stoll on Robin's speech. Good job setting the speech
up. Very effective initiating the conversation. Remove "we were talking
about you when you were out of the room" to Bill. Highly entertaining.
Great interaction. Good job choosing Bill for your partner.
Evaluator #2. Bill Frarand on Ray's speech. If you had us crying, you
would have failed. Kept coming back to theme. Objective was to open with
a joke. Did not have that. Tied speech together well, good closing. I'm
sorry did I kill your penguin? Always an engaging story. Very humorous.
Evaluator #3. Alan Wong on Colette's speech. Comfortable delivery.
Jennifer was a good chocie for a partner. Did not seem rehearsed, good
interaction. Positive feedback. Good email follow up. Suggested job
descriptions and to ask Jennifer, "How can I help you succeed"? Collete is
an excellent teacher and mentor. Audience. Middle finger. Poking, and
avulsed employee.
Evaluator #4. Marietta Farrington on Russ's speech. Real and genuine.
Forceful and confident. Initially too many names and people but they were
brought back into story. Relived whole story. Like how story was
presented. Ended speech with a call to action.
Ah Counter: Robin. Very happy to have been able to click on Dirk. The
wizard of Ah's was Jeff Stoll.
Quiz Master: Jonathan. Which supper hero was Bill referring to? Green
Lantern.
What is the name of scotch in Ray's speech? McCallan25.
Name of coaching part in Colette's speech? One Naughty Clerk.
Who was the toughest kid in Russ's speech? Ryan Ryseback.

Avulsing Bill. Getting the stranger out of him.
Not really a grammarian thing but I like how Ray licked his glass and
swiped every drop with his fingers.
Jennifer - 8 people long describing the length of the line.
Dirk - Avulsed employee.
General Evaluator: Jennifer. Name signs out. (best name sign was on
Robin McIntosh, it was at least the most noticeable). Interesting word of
the day with Avulse. I forgot being grammarian was also in charge of WOD.
It's why the WOD was hand written. And the word Avulse is a fairly common
word used in dentistry. Teeth tend to avulse from the maxilla whenever it
comes in contact with concrete. Robin - great personal story with being ah
counter. Kept clicking until he swallowed the clicker, and I still see two
clickers. (very funny). Dirk good inspiration but story is better as a
joke? Jonathan on being quiz master. Your in charge of the questions.
That means you can change it if it's validated even if it's after the fact.
Meeting started on time Pattie Apple on Table Topics, a very amorphous
theme. Ask to use the WOD.
Jennifer on Evaluators.
1. Jeff. Pauses to improve. Notes not well organized. Use break to
organize thoughts. Liked the use of examples. Good feedback on addressing
overall structure of speech.
2. Bill. Introducing humor. Did not copy Ray's humor. Difference
between humor and joke. You just didn't say "you screwed up because you
did not meet the objectives". but you said it so nicely.
3. Alan. Read the wrong objective (ooops). Doing too many things at
once. Evaluation more like a recap. Addressed how can I help you succeed.
4. Marietta. Super well organized. Placed speech within a context.
Explained how he changed and grown over time. Described characters and
names. Problem and then it was not a problem. Well handled. Like how he
analyzed structure of speech.
On Phil being Toastmasters. There was not enough speakers and then by game
time there were an abundance of speakers. Get the cart out of the way if
speakers don't need it. Filler, not to step on time when audience is
evaluating.
Phil was an excellent toastmaster. He kept the meeting moving along and he
was able to get four speakers organized and evaluators in place before the
meeting started. All the speeches were excellent. I loved all the
questions from Pattie Apple for table topics. All the evaluators did a
good job giving feedback. And Jennifer Dunne always entertains. There
were 14 members and no guests. The winner for best evaluator was
Marietta. The winner for best table topics was Dirk. And the winner for
best speech was Ray. Phil was kind enough to give a separate ribbon to all
the speakers for being good speakers and for stepping up and for stepping
in. Congratulations to everyone. It was another wonderful evening and
another fun evening where the time just seems to fly by. Until next time,
