HisNibs.com update -- Italy and China
September 1st, 2008

Greetings,

As promised in the last newsletter, I now
have the webpage up for the new, limited
edition Delta Capri Blue Grotto pens. The
Blue Grotto was the 'show pen' at the recent
D. C. Supershow and extends the wonderful run
of limited edition models recently introduced
by Delta.

There's also an addition to the Jinhao line
from China...the Silver Chain Dragon. It's
another stunning addition that leaves no
doubt as to its country of origin.

I recently received an email from a customer
who had purchased a slimmer fountain pen from
me last month:

"I just purchased a Duke 209 and am very
pleased with the way it writes, however, I
would like something with a little more heft
and size. I must find one reasonably priced,
because I have done everything to stepping on
a fountain pen, rolling my office chair over
one, dropping a pen in an open grave (I am an
undertaker). "

I admit to being amused by that last image,
but his follow-up communication when I asked
if I could quote him was of a more sober and
moving nature:

"You may certainly quote me in the
newsletter. One of the values of using a
Fountain Pen for me is that the instrument
makes me write slower and therefore more
legibly so others can read it. It also
reinforces the dignity and value of the role
I fill with families in making Funeral
Arrangements. Most families, though this is
changing, value tradition and want things
done the way Mom and Dad would have wanted them.
Therefore using a Fountain Pen helps me in my
job and also reinforces values that most
families hold dear."

One of the World's most beautiful
destinations is Italy's Island of Capri.
Delta is proud to present a collection of
writing instruments that pay tribute to the
beauty of the island as well as its rich
history.

The three pens offered in this collection pay
a special tribute to the World's most
celebrated underwater cave system, Capri's
Blue Grotto. The unique pen caps feature a
specially designed, cobalt blue cabochon that
acts like viewing window. When the cap is
removed and held up to any light, it captures
the special blue glow inside of the cave
known as Grotta Azzurra, Capri's own "Blue
Grotto".

These are definitely oversized pens! Both the
fountain pen and rollerball measure 6" capped
and 6-1/2" posted (a touch under that for the
rollerball). Cap aside, both measure about
5". The ballpen itself almost reaches a full 6".

Who says you have to be subtle? Make a
statement, I say!

Here's another terrific addition to the
Jinhao lineup. The Silver Chain is another
full-sized pen -- 5/12" capped, 6" posted and
a full 5" with cap laid aside -- with an
oversized nib!

Brick by Brick, a Weekend Warrior Builds a Medieval Retirement Home

From the N. Y. Times:

"SNELLING, Calif. - Most days, the talk here
among the farmers and almond growers along
this stretch of two-lane blacktop 18 miles
from the nearest on-ramp concerns heat units
- as hot summer days are known - and the hull
split that signals the approach of almond
harvest season.

But there is also the Kasteel Noz, the
turreted brick castle with two towers and a
moat that Casper Noz, a 51-year-old
contractor who was born in the Netherlands,
has been obsessively building by himself
almost completely by hand on weekends for the
past 20 years."
