In answer to Stanley's (or is Stan preferred?) question, no I could not rlogin or telnet to the WP. I did not attempt to ping the box. As I indicated previously, I was going to reformat the hard drive and reload from a backup. But prior to doing that I decided to try simply rebooting the machine. Instead of just selecting Reboot_Station from the menu, I selected Shutdown_WP. I then halted it and entered boot. I don't know if it is just chance, but I have had problems with the reboot command where machines (including this one) have had to run through multiple iterations of fsck before finally coming up clean. In this instance the WP came up smoothly and everything was fine. Because I am cynical by nature, I repeated the process (let's call it the "soft touch shutdown") with the same smooth restart. Neither the hosts or wpcplns files were changed/corrupted. The fact that the machine came up well, suggests that there was no corruption in ANY of the files - otherwise a repeat of the FoxSelect failure should have occurred. So, I still don't know what threw the station into a loop but things are running normally again. Thanks for all the suggestions. It's always educational.
