Problems like this (electrical noise) during a rain storm are very difficult to
troubleshoot. I read a US Naval Report about a problem at a radar station
that occurred during rain storms and it took a very long time to find and the
actual problem was on an electrical pole over a kilometer from the radar
station.
As some have reported, changing hardware has resolved the issue. This could be
because the old hardware was more sensitive to the noise and would switch
fieldbus looking for a more secure bus.
You can also check the short 1 m co-ax cables to ensure there is no kinks or
degradation. Check all ground and bond connections to ensure they are tight.
Ensure that there is no metal to metal rubbing possible in the racks. It is
possible for vibrations from thunder to shake and move these metal to metal
locations. Has someone added new wiring where they may not have adhered to
the Power & Grounding Guideline?

Nick,
Ours is also a CP270 and the errors are only the sysmon, not in the CP. We
have had this happen in the past and it would usually be one FBM causing the
errors, and that would be the FBM that showed errors most often. Are your
errors always on one channel, A or B? In our case the CP connects to a pair of
FCM2F2's, fiber to another pair of FCM's in the I/O cabinet, then 1 meter PIO
cables to the 8 slot racks. Very basic. And the problem will occur many times
over a couple of days and then go away. And strangely seems to coincide with
rain.

We have a similar problem on a PIO bus from CP270. Ours happens every few
minutes constantly but does not cause errors in the CP, just the system PIO bus
errors listed below. We are trying to decide how to pursue fixing this. Look
forward to any ideas that come forth.

Subject: [foxboro] PIO Bus Errors
Honorable List,
We are getting the following sysmon errors intermittently.
2018-06-08 14:04:36 07CP03 Equip = 070404 SYSMON -00068 Single PIO Bus Access
Error on A
2018-06-08 14:04:36 07CP03 Equip = 070404 SYSMON -00070 Single PIO Bus Access
Recovery on A
The errors are occurring on all 9 FBM's in a cabinet. The FBM's are on 2
separate racks. Always A channel. We replaced one FBM that was the most
frequent offender but that did not solve the problem. The most recent spate of
errors started last Friday afternoon at the same time we had a
thunderstorm/downpour. They occurred 56 times over the weekend ending Sunday
afternoon and have not occurred since. (It hasn't rained since then either).
Has anyone else seen something similar?
Thanks,
Roger Smith
