Besides McAfee V8.7 Virusscan and anti spamware,
I/A V8.5 secured also supports McAfee ePo Orchestrator as add-on package to
take these functions to a higher level.
Runs on the I/A V8.5 Domain Controller and enforces policies and updates
accordingly..amongst device control and many other security features.
That answers a previous email also, as to why McAfee is our preferred partner
as we have engaged them in several solutions.

Ted,
If I understand your question correctly, McAfee does offer a management
product called ePolicy Orchestrator. I've set that up at a few sites and
have had good results. ePO will allow you to setup a repository to download
the definitions from the Internet and store locally. That way, the
production boxes don't need to see the Internet directly. The other feature
is that you can use ePO to notify of events on the production boxes.
It can also be used to deploy AV to the production boxes.

Antivirus on MS Windows in a manufacturing environment is obviously a must
have. Changing to Symantec is an interesting thought, we're already using
their BESR backup and restore utilities...
Going forward wouldn't there be some benefits in reducing the number of
vendors everyone (customers/Invensys/Wonderware/ system integrators, ...)
would need to deal with for Windows workstation software
(testing/compatibility, tracking versions/updates/patches, familiarity with
websites, contacting tech support, etc)?
Along similar lines, conversely -- if we are to stick with McAfee for
antivirus, could they (McAfee) also provide an online network based
backup/restore solution (could not initially find one in my brief search of
their website)?
Any others' thoughts on this?

The first response I got from a local Fox rep was that it is required to buy
a newer McAfee VirusScan Enterprise Client for each box and install it. I'm
sure Foxboro Service will be happy to do this for you (for a bit of
compensation).
The latest area we upgraded (a little over a year ago) to Fox V8.4.2 came
with McAfee 8.5 which is still OK with definition updates, so unless you
went to Foxboro Windows 1 1/2 to 2 years or longer ago you won't have this
problem.
Alex sent me a copy of the Customer Advisory offline which Fox Service has
received and it is dated today, so we customers will probably all get this
Customer Advisory within the next few days. I only found out earlier because
of a notice posted on the CSC Antivirus download webpage where I go
routinely for updates.
We all will just have to get used to the fact that McAfee may have to be
re-purchased/re-installed every few years in the future.
Maybe Foxboro should consider changing to Symantec Antivirus, as I know we
have been using the same Symantec AV enterprise software for close to 10
years on our PCs at work and home with no need to upgrade to a newer version
(Yes, I have a PC at home that old). It is my personal opinion that McAfee
has always been overbearing with software/license fees.
