Sun D/E Hardware is fairly easy to come by on the second hand market
ive been using solarsystems.com
D box failures !! heres my findings
they are more common than B
on two different occasions an intermittently panicing D box has turned ou=
t to need a new motherboard
we have also found the install script for a D Box with a 8.4 Gig drive en=
ds up with only a 75Mb root partition
which is smaller than a 4.2 Gig drive gets. on our D Box WP's we partitio=
n the drive manually assigning about 500 Mb to root and swap and 1.5Gb to=
 usr, we then edit the install script to skip drive formatting
we also found that unless its a sun drive you wont beable format above 8.=
5Gb
I wasnt brave enough to manually partition my E box AW but it needs more =
swap

notice when the list question was posted about the pricing of going from =
V7 to V8 (minimal hardware needed) it was all quiet out there in Foxboro =
land. a 6.x system with D/E boxes needs to last till V8.UNIX

I have a WP51D that is crashing at present (problem was posted on this =3D
group) - attempts to buy a spare from Foxboro led me along the same =3D
path: replace with a G box and upgrade to version 7.0. This is an =3D
expense which would be met with some management resistance as this =3D
system is just 3 yrs old.

I too would like to hear from the group any suggestions.=3D20

Are there any owners of AW51 D & E boxes out there running 6.x?

We recently reviewed the Inv. Lifecycle report and found that the AW51 D =
=3D
& E=3D20
boxes are no longer available from jan 2007 on. Invensys advises to =3D
change=3D20
to G boxes and upgrade to version 7.0.
I hate to imagine what would happen if our host box (E) would fail=3D20
(motherboard or sun Proccessor) and we can't get a replacement within a=3D=
20
couple of days....
I probably can't convince management to replace and upgrade a perfectly =3D
good=3D20
system, only because of the end of lifetime issue....So we'll probably =3D
try=3D20
to obtain a spare E box.
I would be interested in knowing the strategies on this of the other I/A =
=3D

users.
